At Uppingham, we are delighted to celebrate the achievements of all members of our community.
Hannah Joseph, the Director of Netball at Uppingham, is celebrating success after playing a pivotal role in the Loughborough Lightning team that won the Vitality Netball Superleague title for the first time when defeating Team Bath 49-32 in the 2021 Grand Final. Playing at wing-attack, Hannah drew the praise of the Sky Sports pundits for her industry and consistently outstanding passing that enabled Loughborough goal-shooter Mary Cholhok to play a central part in first establishing, and then extending, a 22-14 interval lead for the Lightning Team.
In front of 1,000 fans at the Copper Box Arena, the victors weathered a determined Team Bath effort in the third quarter, before pulling away to ensure that the memory of three previous final defeats in 2008, 2017 and 2018 could now be replaced by a first, well-deserved, title. Hannah said, ‘‘I am delighted and proud to be a part of the first Loughborough Lightning team to win the Superleague title. I have seen the franchise grow hugely over the last nine years and having previously lost two finals I am so proud to have finally won the gold medal. It is such an amazing feeling, and we now look forward to defending the title next year!”
Hannah was appointed to the Head of Netball position in 2020, at which point she had already enjoyed two years in the England squad. This insight into the professional Netball environment enables her to bring the very latest technical knowledge, elite training practices and coaching expertise to her role at Uppingham. Hannah was recently named in the England squad for the 2021-22 season, which culminates with the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the Roses will be defending their historic gold medal from the last Games.
