Uppingham School’s purpose is to inspire in young people an excitement for the future by empowering them with the skills, ambition, and confidence to navigate their own pathway through life, accompanied by a sense of responsibility to build a better future for the communities of which they will be a part.

Our key priorities are:

  1. To have a curriculum which excites intellectual curiosity and nurtures self-sufficient pupils who are stretched, challenged, and imbued with critical thinking skills such that they can thrive academically, engage profoundly with their learning, and achieve excellent outcomes in terms of absolute and value-added results.
  2. To be a thriving, cohesive community where everyone is welcomed, valued, and able to flourish. Accordingly, we work collaboratively to ensure that staff, pupils, and parents work in partnership to build proactive and responsive pastoral systems which ensure every pupil is safe and well cared-for.
  3. To enable pupils to learn how to manage their own physical and mental health, solve their own problems, and develop the habits of resilience. We want to ensure that any young person who experiences pastoral difficulties is identified at an early stage and offered prompt and effective individual support.
  4. To give pupils opportunities for holistic growth through a varied and stimulating co-curricular programme focusing on creativity, physical literacy, leadership, service, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Ultimately, we want our pupils to reach their full potential as globally and self-aware citizens.
  5. To retain our competitive edge delivering for young people who are looking for excellence in music, sport, theatre and drama, and outdoor education, alongside a desire for personal growth and challenge.
  6. To become a hub of pedagogical expertise and innovation: one that is as stimulating for teachers brand new to the profession as it is for those with more experience. Our collaborative professional culture is committed to outstanding practice, restlessly reflective, and enjoys a reputation for teaching excellence, embracing new thinking and technologies.
  7. To be recognised for our outstanding Sixth Form experience, ensuring that pupils have access to the best programme of study for them to flourish and enjoy learning. To give young people the confidence and knowledge to make the best decisions about their next steps after they leave school, and the desire to retain life-long relationships with the School as Old Uppinghamians, through the OU network, and Uppingham Foundation.
  8. To create meaningful educational partnerships across our region that release the human potential within all young people. By building networks of excellence and aspiration, our pupils and staff will discover the value of relationships and personal commitment which contribute to wider social good, whilst supporting projects that embrace the talent and diversity in our community.
