Children who are healthy and happy perform at their best. To safeguard the health of our pupils, we provide accessible medical, counselling and support services.
Our professionally staffed and equipped health centre provides a 24-hour service in term time, staffed by registered nurses. The Woodfield Health Centre looks after pupils’ all-round health and wellbeing by promoting good health and healthy lifestyles, as well as treating ill health and accidents as they arise.
The centre provides a supportive and caring environment, and pupils are always welcome to visit for guidance on any matters of physical or emotional health.
A doctor, appointed from the local practice, holds a surgery each morning in the health centre. If necessary, they can refer pupils to specialist consultants. A number of private practitioners also work in the health centre, providing a range of specialist services for pupils. They include physiotherapists, osteopaths, educational psychologists, nutritionists and others, who offer the care needed to support pupils through the ups and downs of teenage life.
In addition, each boarding house has a matron who is responsible to the housemaster or housemistress for the day-to-day health of pupils in the house. The school also has trained counsellors (both dependent and independent), who ensure pupils always have someone they can talk to in complete confidence.
The school operates a private medical scheme, to which parents can enrol their sons or daughters for the duration of their time at Uppingham.
