Pupils play golf year-round on excellent local courses, with professional coaching to instil the values of integrity, courtesy and sportsmanship.
Golf is a character-building pursuit, and our pupils develop a fine appreciation for the rules of the game. It is a competitive sport underscored by a spirit of cooperation. We promote good sportsmanship and inspire our pupils to play with honesty, integrity, respect and courtesy.
Golf can be played all year round, and our pupils enjoy professional coaching at both The Luffenham Heath and Rutland Water golf clubs. We also offer bespoke strength and conditioning programmes. Players on the golf team have the opportunity to join extended UK and overseas tours, which provide rewarding and life-enriching experiences.
Coaching
Golf is currently run by Nick Gandy, the Director of Sport and former PGA Trainee. Lesson are with Michael Farr, PGA Professional at Luffenham Heath Golf Club, whilst other experienced staff assist with the programme.
Facilities
Pupils play golf at The Luffenham Heath golf club, a UK Top-100 course and Open qualifying venue, and also at Rutland Water golf club, which has extensive practice and playing facilities, a par-three course, an 18-hole course and a driving range.
Competitions
Uppingham competes in the HMC Foursomes and ISGA national events, and has qualified for national finals in the past. Regular competitive fixtures are played throughout the summer term. Previous Uppinghamians have been awarded golf scholarships to America, and the school is supported by a successful ‘old boys’ golfing society.
