Badminton is a popular and accessible sport for all pupils – helping to build fitness, confidence and skill in a fun and sociable environment.
Badminton is an extremely popular sport at Uppingham and is available for both boys and girls of all ages. It is a sociable sport, which helps to build confidence, improve concentration and reduce stress – as well as building physical fitness.
We hold badminton sessions three times per week throughout the season, and compete in more than 30 fixtures and inter-house events during that time. We encourage pupils at all levels to participate in badminton and to develop a love for the sport. We instil a strong work ethic and expect pupils to embrace our values of respect for self and others, and the pursuit of personal excellence.
Coaching
Badminton is run by Alex Dawes, who is assisted by an external level two coach and four other coaches.
Facilities
There are six badminton courts in the main sports hall. We also make extensive use of the fitness suite and the expertise of our strength and conditioning coaches.
Competitions
Competitive fixtures are played from September to April. We compete in both the East Midlands Independent Schools league and the Leicestershire Schools league, as well as entering the English Schools’ competitions each year.
