Uppingham has won a Gold award in the small town category of East Midlands in Bloom.

The town’s year-round horticultural displays are maintained by a hard-working group of community volunteers.

Our Gardens Department work closely with Uppingham in Bloom to offer their expertise and assistance, with pupils also getting involved in activities such as planting and leaf-clearing as part of the Make a Difference programme.

Alongside the Gold award, Uppingham’s tree trail was given a special commendation by the judges, with a wildflower project at the Church of St Peter and St Paul also praised.

Uppingham in Bloom chairman, Pam Dalby, said: “We are delighted to receive a gold award for the small town category in this year’s competition. In a very difficult 18 months, we are so pleased to have maintained our town’s run of gold awards.

“The team would like to thank all our volunteers, sponsors and supporters, as well as Uppingham School’s Gardens team and school pupils for their help.”

Uppingham School’s Gardens Manager, Andy Bourke, said: “The Gardens team were delighted to be involved with Uppingham in Bloom again this year. As a School, we have a large presence in the town, and our input means we can continue to work with the town and the local community.

“We worked with the volunteers to put together a colour scheme that would work best, as well as helping to install and order all the displays. Uppingham in Bloom volunteers keep this looking in great shape, and this year we were pleased to have pupils involved in the Gardens Club help with planting on a Friday afternoon.”

It’s brilliant that the hard work of everyone involved in Uppingham in Bloom has been recognised with this award, and we sincerely appreciate the work that volunteers from within the community put in to keep our beautiful market town looking its best.
